In the Madison Region, we celebrate entrepreneurs and work to support the efforts of those who want to transform an idea into a thriving business. There are a number of resources available to those starting a business in the area, and we encourage you to take advantage of the tools, expertise, and networks that our region offers.
Much of the information provided is on a state level. Thrive staff can help you navigate these resources as well as connect you with more local, community-specific resources in the Madison Region. County-level resources and links are also provided on respective community pages.
Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Toolkit
The Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Toolkit provides business start-up information and assistance, networking contacts, and technical resources. The information caters to individuals interested in starting any type of business including retail, service, or technology companies. Produced by the Wisconsin Technology Council in partnership with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, the Toolkit is designed to give innovators a pathway to resources available in the state and beyond.
Forward Wisconsin: Wisconsin Business Toolkit
Forward Wisconsin provides information on what makes Wisconsin a good place to start and grow a business. This page provides useful links to business start-up resources including tools for small businesses, minority-owned businesses, and business assistance organizations.
Wisconsin Portfolio
The Wisconsin Portfolio provides information on the entrepreneurial investment climate in Wisconsin, created by the Wisconsin Technology Council and the Wisconsin Angel Network.
Entrepreneurs’ Resource Clinic
The Entrepreneurs’ Resource Clinic at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery provides a “one-stop shop” for entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs to gain advice in legal matters, business development, technology licensing, and other areas. Those using the Clinic need not be affiliated with the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network
Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network provides individuals with access to a statewide network of resources and expertise. Resources include business assistance and financing, facilities, and training events.
Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)
WEDC provides resources, technical support, and financial assistance to nurture business growth and job creation in Wisconsin. The website features resources for starting and expanding your business, as well as information about programs supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, minority business development, and international business development.
